Lionel R Shockness is an Executive Coach, with an interest in diversity/Inclusion and cross-cultural relationships. His areas of coaching expertise include Emotional Intelligence, Conflict Management, Team Building, Work/Life Integration, Career Planning and Leadership Development. He is a trained group facilitator in: stress management, conflict mediation, career transitions, and mid-life transition issues.

Lionel is a goal-oriented executive advisor and coach. He coaches senior level executives on the psychological dimensions of leadership and organizational life. Drawing upon his knowledge of organizational psychology and fifteen years of experience as a clinically trained individual and group psychotherapist, he utilizes his knowledge of internal, interpersonal, and group dynamics, to assist organizations in achieving optimal performance by increasing the emotional intelligence of the organizations leaders and managers. The primary thrust of his work is aligning managerial effectiveness with business strategy.

Lionel works with business leaders and senior executives to enhance their repertoire of leadership and management competencies. By targeting their core strengths, he assists in the development of strategic leadership performance initiatives to enhance organizational effectiveness.

Lionel has been in practice for over 16 years, coaching individuals and teams across diverse industries such as, Hewlett Packard, JP Morgan Chase, Disney, Accenture, American Express, Moody’s, Essence, and Sony. Training and coaching credits include MTV networks, Merrill Lynch, Yahoo!, Columbia University, and the New School.

He is certified in the application of a wide variety of coaching, career and leadership assessment tools including the DISC, MBTI, ECI which measure emotional intelligence and the CPI instrument, a leadership development and management training tool. Lionel is an exceptional and insightful communicator with impressive stage presence. He is an engaging speaker and a dynamic motivator.

His style of coaching is based on the concepts of Appreciative Inquiry and the assertion that what we focus on becomes our reality, in other words, the language we use creates our reality. His coaching approach has been described as solution-focused, goal-oriented, intuitive, honest and compassionate. He strongly believes that through coaching individuals attain a new level of consciousness. They become inspired and motivated to make the behavioral change that transforms them and the people around them. The results are increased personal satisfaction and enhanced overall performance in work and life.

Lionel is founder and Principal of Shockness Consulting, a coaching service dedicated to helping people have more purposeful professional and personal lives. He holds a Masters in Clinical Social Work from Yeshiva University and a BA in Psychology from the State University of New York. He also holds an ACC credential from the ICF, certificates in Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy from the Greenwich Institute for Psychoanalytic Studies, and The Institute for the Study of Culture and Ethnicity.

Lionel demonstrates his professional commitment through memberships in the American Society for Training and Development, The Association for Psychological Type, The Executive Coaching Summit, The International Coaching Federation, and The New York State Society of Clinical Social Workers.
